Instances Where a Tennessee DMV Address Change is Required

How to Complete a Tennessee Drivers License Change of Address Online

The easiest way to change address on drivers license documents is online through the TDOSHS website. To submit a TN DMV change of address online, applicants must provide their last name, driver license or ID card number, date of birth and Social Security Number. When changing drivers license addresses online, motorists may be eligible to apply for a duplicate driving credential online as well. While there is no fee to apply for a DMV address change, motorists do need to submit payment when applying for a duplicate driving license.

How to Complete a Tennessee DMV Change of Address by Mail

To change a TN drivers license address by mail, motorists may submit a letter to the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s Driver License Records office in Nashville. However, the DMV address change request must include the following information:

  • A full name (as it appears on the current driver license)
  • Driver license number
  • Birth date
  • Social Security Number
  • An old address (as it appears on the current driving license)
  • The new address
  • The county of the new address
  • A daytime telephone number

After the TDOSHS receives the TN change of address request, it will update the applicant’s driving records within 15 business days.

Where to Change Drivers License Address in Tennessee

If motorists wish to submit a Tennessee DMV address change in person, then they may visit a local Driver Service Center to obtain a change of address form. However, the DMV change of address form is not available for download online through the TDOSHS website. When completing the driving license change of address application, motorists must provide their full legal residential address, including a city, post office box (if applicable) and a zip code. If motorists change their TN driver license address and wish to obtain a new driving credential, then they must apply for a duplicate license and pay all applicable licensing fees.
